5 best tips when planning an event with flowers

With the hot days this week it feels like summer already…what a change in seasons, moods and colours! This month has been hectic and fun, lots of planning and inspiration boards for very different people. The more I meet with people, the creativity spirals into an endless source of ideas that at the end make people smile.

Here is some advice I always give clients when planning an event:

1. Have a dream!Dream with what you want, what you like, with what you’ve always wanted!
Also, decide on what you do not like.
You are the one who decides on color, design, sizes and most of all, how flowers will make you feel. Florist will help, but go with your gut and that idea that feels right.
 2. Spend in the items that are important to youIs it the Brides Bouquet or maybe the centerpieces? Put your money where you feel comfortable. If you want to giveaway the centrepieces to your guests, plan for a game where everybody can have fun and win a prize and take them home. If giving flowers to grandparents, parents, uncles and best friends will make you happy, then focus on that.

 3. Reuse what you are getting.
I always tell couples to use the bride’s bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets as part of the reception décor. Use the for the sweetheart table, near the cake of at the dessert table. Otherwise, where are you going to leave the flowers while you are dancing and greeting everyone?
Also, church decors can be brought by a helper to the reception hall and be placed somewhere where you need extra decoration.

4. Get real expectations
Pinterest can be an amazing place to find ideas, but be warned most of the photos have been (over)photoshopped and they don’t show necessarily how flowers really look in person.  It feels like window shopping, but remember, it’s social media.

Not everyone can imagine how things are going to look, so don’t be shy to book an extra meeting and get a sample of your idea. You may be surprised how things can turn, and you’ll be sure of what you are getting the day of the event after seeing it!

 5. Decide on budget for flowersIt’s important to know how much you want to spend on your flowers. Dreaming about a room full of orchids like the great Gatsby movie is fun, but most of the times the reality is that couples are paying themselves the whole party and budget is not  endless. Spend smart, and get it done right!

A good florist will take that dream and make it work within your budget!
