6. Blackboard and flowers - Santiago Cardenas

Colombian artist, one of my favourite ones.
His house is already a piece of art and he's  a personal friend of my family.  I had the privilege of visiting his studio, and feeling ever wanting to leave that space.

​Characterized for extreme realistic paintings he once said: "If a a painting fools me, it's ready". 
He said never wanted to paint flowers, but his home was always full of vases of different flowers - his wife run a wedding floral design business too!
He started stealing some stems here and there and finally ended by painting them.

Not because he wanted to paint flowers, but because those were also element and an excuse to recreate a relationship with light, space and color.

5. Gladiolas - Paul Klee

I was introduced to this Swiss Painter when I was give a book, and all the illustrations were made by him. 
The complex use of color and simple shapes always strikes me as brilliant and peaceful.

​Childhood memories and the simple lines are what I really like. 

As Marcel Duchamp said in 1942:
"The first reaction in front of a Klee painting is the very pleasant discovery, what everyone of us could or could have done, to try drawing like in our childhood"

4. Woman with flower head - Salvador Dali

Like many of  Dali paintings, a world of dreams (or nightmares) appears in front of your eyes. 
Death, rebirth, anxiety and fear show us how complex our mind can be. 
A mature woman with flowers in the front, maybe her image as a child in the back and a ghost following her... your feelings will lead to the best interpretations of this piece of art.

3. The Kiss - Gustav Klimt

Inspired by the byzantine imagery, Klimt really became successful with his golden phase and  it's must if you are visiting museums in Vienna. 

Extremely popular and famous artist, was not very well criticized  among other artists who categorized him as an unimportant artist.

​Popular for sure, and maybe one of the nowadays favourites for young people and "pinteresters"

2. Irises - Vincent Van Gogh

The Irises was painted a year before van Gogh died at the asylum in Saint Remy de Provence. 

He called the painting "the lightning conductor for my illness" because he felt that he could keep himself from going insane by continuing to paint.

I chose this one, not only because I love Irises, but because it reflect the feelings and dramatic end of life he had. Strong strokes, colourful blooms and the sadness it reflects.

1. Water Lilies - Claude Monet

Impressionist artists have always strike me as astonishing, perfect and full of impeccable balance of reality and imagination. 
Monet's life work has shown always the beauty of light and color, the complexity of nature and the simplicity on just some flowers in a world about to explode of life. 
So next time you see one, remember this beautiful flowers were Monet's work for almost 30 years.
